Bronx, N.Y. -
Despite giving up a goal with one second remaining in regulation, the Fordham Rams pulled out a 2-1 double-overtime victory over the Marist Red Foxes on Friday, as Fordham's Kim Boulos scored the game-winner in the 109th minute.
With the win, Fordham improves to 2-1-1 on the season, while Marist falls to 1-3-0. The win also marked the 100th coaching win at Fordham head coach Ness Selmani.
Played in a steady rain throughout the night, Fordham cracked the scoreboard first in the 24th minute. Kim Boulos found Katie Sanchez for a left footed shot inside the right post for her first goal of the season.
Fordham continued to apply the pressure, outshooting Marist, 9-0, in the first half, as Marist goalkeeper Jamie Balzarini had seven saves.
Balzarini though would leave the game with an injury in the 56th minute, putting Anna Case in the net for the Red Foxes.
Marist though scrapped together one final push in the final seconds to get the tying goal with one second left on the clock. With time ticking away, Jennifer Orlando kicked the ball deep into the box, which Kate Fox flicked on and just crossed the line for her third goal of the season, sending the game to overtime.
Marist kept the pressure on in the first overtime, as Merilynn Esteve came close on a shot to the left side, but Fordham keeper Elisabeth Roald made the save.
Then in the 109th minute, Katie McDermott picked up a loose ball in the Marist end, and chipped a pass over the Marist defender, hitting Boulos in stride. She then knocked home the game-winner to the left side for her first goal of the season.
The Fordham women's soccer team will next be in action on Sunday, September 14th, as they host the Manhattan Jaspers at 1:00 PM on Jack Coffey Field.
