The Fordham volleyball team wrapped up play at the Quinnipiac Tournament, winning both of their matches on day two against Rhode Island and Morgan State. With the two wins, Fordham finishes the tournament and starts the season with a 3-1 record.
In the team's first match of the day, Fordham topped Rhode Island in a non-conference match-up, 3-1 on Burt Kahn Court.
Trailing for most of the first set, Fordham was down 24-22 with Rhode Island serving for the set. Katie Wells notched a kill to give the serve back to Fordham at 24-23. Jenna Hart and Katherine Burrell then came up with a block of Stacy Yohannes to tie the score. Following a Rhode Island attack error, Hart finished the Fordham comeback with a kill, winning the first set, 26-24.
In the second set, Fordham won by seven, 25-18, as Rhode Island hit -.024 in the set, giving the Rams a 2-0 lead in the match.
After Rhode Island took set three, Fordham closed out the match with a 25-17 score and a 3-1 win.
For Fordham, Jolanda Gunning-Snowden posted a team-high 14 kills, while Jenna Hart had 10 kills and six digs. Katherine Burrell posted her third straight double-double of the tournament with 33 assists and 10 digs, with Kailee May added a season-high 24 digs.
In match two, Fordham swept Morgan State in three sets, 25-15, 25-21, and 25-11.
Fordham had everything go their way against Morgan State, hitting .344 as a team, led by Hart, who finished with a match-high 11 kills and a .579 hitting percentage. Christi Griffiths chipped in eight kills with Wells adding seven kills.
Fordham split the setter duties between Burrell and Samantha Jacobson. Burrell finished with 11 assists and five digs, while Jacobson had 19 assists and six digs.
Morgan State didn't help their cause in the match, committing 11 service errors, while hitting just .035 as a team.
Following the tournament, Fordham's Jenna Hart was named to the All-Tournament team.
The Fordham volleyball team will next be in action on Wednesday, September 3rd, as they host Wagner College at the Rose Hill Gym, beginning at 7:00 PM.
