Box Score

Charlotte, N.C. - In the highest scoring affair at the 2008 Atlantic 10 Softball Championship, the Fordham offense came alive with 11 hits and five runs, led by Jocelyn Dearborn's 3-for-3 performance, as the Rams eliminated the Saint Joseph's Hawks, 5-1, at the Phillips Softball Complex in Charlotte, N.C.

With the win, Fordham improves to 35-29 on the year, and will now play St. Bonaventure in an elimination game at 4:00 PM on Friday.

Fordham got on the board immediately in the first, capitalizing on two Saint Joseph's errors. Melissa Andrews started the inning with a single and moved to second on a ground out. After Mary Beth Puccio reached on an error, Allison Storc hit a ground ball to third, where the Hawks got Puccio at second, but Beka Schumock then threw the ball into the ground toward first, allowing Andrews to score.

The Rams made it 2-0 in the bottom of the second, as Jocelyn Dearborn connected on a solo home run to right, her ninth of the season.

The Hawks cut the lead to 2-1 in the fourth, as with a runner on first and two outs, Brooke Darreff hit a shot to deep left that Meghan Shager couldn't track down, scoring Erika Rosenwinkel on a double.

Fordham's offense got rolling again in the fifth, scoring three times to take a 5-1 lead. Allison Twarowski started things with a one-out single up the middle, and then moved to third on a single by Puccio. After Puccio stole second, Storc ripped a single up the middle, scoring both runners and taking second on the throw. After a pitching change, Shager singled down the left field line with Storc trying to score from second, but for the second time on Thursday, got thrown out at the plate. Dearborn though picked her up with an RBI-single, which scored Shager from second.

Twarowski (13-9) was once again in control in the circle, giving up just one run on two hits with two strikeouts. At the plate, Dearborn was 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBI, while Erin Fisher also had a pair of hits. Shager also extended her hit streak to four games with a single and made eight putouts in left field.

The Rams now move on to the first elimination game on Friday, May 9th at 4:00 PM, against second-seeded St. Bonaventure.
