Bobby Freking collected three hits and drove in two runs while Sean Farrell knocked in three runs as Xavier ruined Fordham University Senior Day with an 11-3 Atlantic 10 baseball win over the Rams at Houlihan Park.
With the loss, Fordham falls, to 27-23-1 overall, 11-13 in the Atlantic 10, while Xavier improves to 22-28 overall, 16-8 in the conference.
The Rams got on the board first, picking up a run in the second. Bobby DiNardo led off the Fordham second with a double, was sacrificed to third by P.J. Como and scored on a Ryan David sacrifice fly.
The lead was short-lived as Xavier scored four times in the top of the third, all with two outs. Steve Brown started the Musketeer rally with a two-out double down the left field line and Freking followed with an infield single to put runners on the corners. A walk to Zac Richard loaded the bases for Jordan Conley who brought Brown in with a single. Farrell then cleared the bases with a double to right center.
Fordham made it a one-run game in the fourth as DiNardo doubled with one out and then stole third. Como delivered DiNardo with a double and a David infield single moved Como to third where he scored later in the inning on a wild pitch.
Xavier responded with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth as Richard led off with a home run, his sixth of the year, and, one out later, Farrell reached on an error. Billy O'Conner singled Farrell to third where he scored on a John McCambridge fielder's choice.
The Musketeers then took a commanding 11-3 lead with a five-run seventh, highlighted by a Freking two-run double and an RBI double from Adam Pasono.
DiNardo finished the game 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored while Como went 2-for-3 for the Rams with an RBI.
The Rams will next be in action on Thursday, May 15th, as they travel to Amherst, Massachusetts, to open a three-game Atlantic 10 series with the University of Massachusetts beginning at 3:00 p.m.
