Baseball Downed By Hofstra, 9-4

Bronx, N.Y. - Hofstra's Elliot Hagburg and Mark Stuckless each drove in two runs, while the Pride capitalized on four Fordham errors, as they downed the Fordham Rams, 9-4, at Houlihan Park on Tuesday night.

With the loss, Fordham drops to 25-19-1 overall, while Hofstra improves to 17-30.

Hofstra struck first in the top of the third inning with a five-run rally, helped out by three Fordham errors in the frame. John Kenny opened with a walk and moved to second on an error. Anthony Sarno then singled up the middle to score Kenny. Sarno then moved to second on another error, followed by a Matt Kougasian single up the middle, making it a 2-0 lead. Kougasian then scored on a double by Elliot Hagburg. Tom Legregni then reached on the third error of the inning, allowing Hagburg to score. Nick Panzarella capped the rally with an RBI-single to left to score Legregni.

Fordham cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth inning, as the Rams loaded the bases on three straight singles by Eric Reese, Chris Kaible, and Ryan McCrann. Bobby DiNardo then plated Reese with a sacrifice fly to left.

Hofstra extended their lead to 8-1 in the top of the eighth inning on a two-run double by Mark Stuckless and an RBI-ground out by Chris Mentrasti, and then made it 9-1 in the ninth on an RBI-double by Hagburg.

Fordham put together a three-run ninth on a three-run home run by Rich Goulian, his third of the season, but it wasn't enough as Fordham fell by five.

John Flanagan (3-3) took the loss for Fordham, allowing three earned runs on seven hits in five innings of work. At the plate, Goulian finished 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI, while Danny Leach and Eric Reese each had a pair of hits.

The Fordham baseball team will next be in action on Friday, May 2nd, as they open a three-game Atlantic 10 home series against the Charlotte 49ers, beginning at 7:00 PM.
