Box Score

April 2, 2008

Final Stats

Bronx, N.Y. - Even though a college softball game is seven innings long, it only took one inning for Stony Brook to score enough runs to win the game as the Seawolves scored four times in the second and held on for a 4-2 win over Fordham on Bahoshy Field. The loss breaks a six-game winning streak for the Rams, who fall to 14-18, while Stony Brook improves to 13-11-1.

Fordham outhit Stony Brook in the game, 6-5, with one of those hits a triple off the bat of senior Allison Twarowski in the third inning. The triple was her 219th career hit as she becomes the Fordham career leader, surpassing Krystle Henry, who collected 218 hits from 2003-07.

The Seawolves jumped out to the 4-0 lead in the second as Marissa Fluery led off with a double and moved to third on a Kelsi Fanelli single. Vicki Kavitsky delivered both runners with a triple to right center and she came around to score on a Kelly Oberto single. Oberto then moved to second on a ground out, took third on a wild pitch and scored on a Crista Cerrone ground out.

The Rams got on the board in the bottom of the third on Twarowski's one-out triple and a RBI ground out from Melissa Andrews.

Fordham made it a 4-2 game in the sixth as Andrews led off with a walk and Erin Fisher singled her to second. An Allison Storc fielder's choice moved Andrews to third, with Fisher forced at second on the play. Andrews then came in to score when Stony Brook short stop Kavitsky couldn't hand the throw from catcher Jade Clare as Storc stole second. Storc moved to third on a ground out but was stranded there as Meagan Waldron flied out to end the frame.

The Rams threatened in the seventh as with two outs, Stephanie Mott singled and Twarowski walked to put two on. But Stony Brook pitcher Alyssa Struzenberg got Andrews to ground out to end the game.

Beckah Wiggins threw five innings of one-hit relief for the Rams, striking out seven.

The Rams will next be in action on Friday, April 4th as they travel to Dayton, Ohio, to face the University of Dayton in an Atlantic 10 contest at 3:00 p.m.
