Softball Falls To Hofstra, 8-1

Hempstead, N.Y. - Hofstra's Sara Michalowski drove in two runs, helping her own cause, as the Pride topped the Fordham Rams, 8-1, at the Hofstra Softball Stadium in Hempstead, N.Y.

With the loss, Fordham falls to 23-22 overall, while Hofstra improves to 28-10.

Hofstra broke the scoreless tie with four runs in the bottom of the second, taking advantage of three walks. The Pride loaded the bases on two walks and a single, and scored their first run on a sacrifice fly by Melissa Hodge. After a walk reloaded the bases, Carolann Lubach singled through the right side for a 2-0 lead. The Pride later got a run on a passed ball as well as on an RBI-ground out by Kris Root for a 4-0 lead.

Fordham got on the board in the top of the fourth with a single run. Melissa Andrews led off with a double to right center, followed by an RBI-single up the middle by Mary Beth Puccio.

The Pride made it a 7-1 game in the bottom of the fifth, as Lubach led off with a walk, while Root was hit by a pitch. After an error loaded the bases, Sara Michalowski double to right, bringing home two runs and sending Casey Fee to third. Fee later scored on a wild pitch.

Hofstra capped the scoring in the sixth, as Hodge singled and came around to score on a double by Pam Dreslinski.

Beckah Wiggins (9-8) took the loss, allowing four runs on two hits with four walks in two innings, while Allison Twarowski gave up three runs on one hit with three strikeouts in three innings. At the plate, Fordham managed four hits in the game, a double by Andrews, and singles by Puccio, Allison Storc, and Stephanie Mott.

The Fordham softball team will next be in action on Sunday, April 20th, as they host Charlotte for an Atlantic 10 doubleheader, beginning at 12:00 PM.
