Bronx, N.Y. - After combining for just ten total hits yesterday, the Fordham and George Washington bats came alive today with the two teams banging out 23 hits and the Colonials withstanding a ninth-inning Ram rally to hold on for a 9-6 Atlantic 10 baseball win at Houlihan Park.

With the loss, Fordham falls to 17-15 overall, 4-7 in the Atlantic 10, while George Washington improves to 17-16 overall, 6-5 in the conference.

The Rams trailed 9-4 entering the bottom of the ninth and were down to their final out when Bobby DiNardo reached on an infield single. After DiNardo stole second, Ryan David walked and pinch-hitter Chris Kaible singled to deliver DiNardo and move David to second. A Rich Goulian single loaded the bases and brought in Colonial reliever Jimmy Duggan. Duggan uncorked a wild pitch to bring home David and he then walked Danny Leach to load the bases, bringing Eric Reese to the plate as the potential winning run. But Duggan struck out Reese to end the game.

George Washington jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first when, with one out Andrew Abokhair walked, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Charlie Kruer single.

An Abokhair two-run home run in the third, his second of the year, gave the Colonials a 3-0 lead before the Rams got a run in the bottom of the fourth to make it a 3-1 game. Goulian led off the Fordham fourth with a double and Leach moved him to third with a single. Goulian then came in to score on a Reese ground out.

But George Washington took a 6-1 lead with three runs in the in fifth. Tom Zebroski opened the Colonial fifth with a double and took third on a wild pitch. After Abokhair walked, Kruer reached on an error, with Zebroski scoring on the play. With runners on second and third, Sean Rockey delivered Abokhair with a safety squeeze. Brendon Kelliher then plated Kruer with a single.

The Rams got two runs back in the sixth as John Kahn led off with an infield single and Goulian followed with his second double of the game to score Kahn. Goulian scored later in the inning on a Reese double, a hit which extended his team-high hitting streak to 14 games.

The Colonials tacked on single runs in the seventh, on a Kelliher RBI single, and eighth, on a Zebroski run scoring double, before Fordham made it an 8-4 game with a run in the bottom of the eighth on a Reese solo home run, his second of the season.

A Doug Eizen RBI single in the top of the ninth gave George Washington a 9-4 lead before the Rams attempted the comeback in the bottom of the frame.

Goulian led the Rams at the plate with three hits, two of those doubles, and one RBI while Reese and DiNardo each contributed a pair of hits. Peter Kennelly (1-1) took the loss on the mound for the Rams, allowing seven hits and six earned runs over the first six and two-thirds.

The two teams will close out the three-game series with a game on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
