Bronx, N.Y. -
Fordham's P.J. Como went 3-for-5 with three RBI, while Bobby DiNardo also drove in three runs, as the Fordham Rams topped the Stony Brook Seawolves, 10-8, at Houlihan Park on Wednesday.
With the win, Fordham improves to 12-8 on the year, while Stony Brook drops to 6-10 overall.
After Stony Brook opened the game with a run in the first, Fordham quickly responded with a two-run rally in the bottom half of the inning. With two outs, Eric Reese was hit by a pitch and came around to score on a double to left center by Chris Kaible. Bobby DiNardo followed suit with another double to the gap to score Kaible.
Fordham went up 4-1 in the third with another two-out rally. With runners at first and second, P.J. Como ripped a single up the middle to score Reese, who reached on a single. Angelo Ponte then singled to left to score DiNardo, who reached on a walk.
The Rams continued their two-out magic in the fourth with two more runs. Alex Kenny drew a walk and stole second with two outs. Reese then singled to left to score Kenny. After a stolen base by Reese, Kaible hit a short grounder that the pitcher threw away, allowing Reese to score for a 6-1 advantage.
Stony Brook scored once in the fifth and twice in the sixth to close the Fordham lead to 6-4, but the Rams scored three times in the bottom of the sixth to lead 9-4. The Rams didn't wait for the two-out rally this time, as they loaded the bases with no outs. Danny Leach and Kenny opened the frame with back-to-back singles, followed by a walk to Reese. After a pop out, DiNardo plated a run on a fielder's choice as he beat out a possible double play ball. Como then connected for a two-run triple that got by a diving Stony Brook outfielder, scoring both Kenny and DiNardo.
The Seawolves though would not go away as Rob Dyer hit a grand slam home run in the top of the eighth to bring Stony Brook within one, 9-8.
Fordham got a single run back in the bottom of the inning to lead 10-8, as Reese walked, stole second, moved to third on a groundout, and scored on an infield single by DiNardo.
Kaible then came on to pitch for Fordham in the ninth, recording the final three outs for his fourth save of the season. Freshman Max Krakowiak (2-0) picked up the win, allowing four runs on five hits in 5 2/3 innings of work. At the plate, P.J. Como was 3-for-5 with a triple and three RBI, while Bobby DiNardo was 2-for-4 with three RBI.
