Poughkeepsie, N.Y. -
Rob Iacono collected three hits and Ryan David added two hits and two RBI but it wasn't enough as Fordham fell to Marist, 15-4, at McCann Field. With the loss, Fordham falls to 11-8 on the year while Marist improves to 5-9.
Marist took a 2-0 lead in the first as Richard Curylo led off with a walk and, one out later, moved to third on a Ryan Gauck double. A Brian McDonough sacrifice fly brought in Curylo with the first run and Zach Starkey followed with a single to score Gauck.
The Rams cut the deficit to one, 2-1, in the top of the second when Bobby DiNardo led off with a single and stole second. One out later, DiNardo moved to third on a wild pitch where he scored on a David single.
The Red Foxes responded with four runs in the home half of the second to take a 6-1 lead. Michael Gallic led off reaching on an error and he came around to score on a Bryce Nugent double. A Kyle Meyer infield single moved Nugent to third where he would score one out later on a Ricky Pacione single with Pacione being put out on the play after he took too big a turn at first. A walk to Gauck put runners on the corners before Gauck stole second, with Nugent scoring on the play. Gauck would then score on a McDonough double.
Fordham put together a two-out rally in the fourth as Alex Kenny singled with two away and stole second. He then scored on a David single up the middle to cut the Marist lead to 6-2 before the Red Foxes picked up a run in the bottom of the fourth on a Pacione RBI ground out to regain a five-run lead, 7-2.
The Rams took advantage of a Marist miscue in the sixth to pick up another run as P.J. Como led off reaching second on a throwing error and scored two outs later on an RBI single from Rob Iacono to make it a 7-3 game.
Marist responded with a run of its own in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single from Gauck before the Rams made it an 8-4 game with a run in the top of the seventh. Rich Goulian led off the frame with a single, moved to second on a ground out and scored on a single from Chris Kaible.
But the Red Foxes again responded to the Fordham run, scoring two of their own in the bottom of the seventh, on a two-run single off the bat of Gauck, before exploding for five runs in the eighth, highlighted by a Curylo three-run double, to take a commanding 15-4 lead.
The Rams will next be in action on Wednesday, March 26th, as they host the Stony Brook University Seawolves at Houlihan Park beginning at 3:30 p.m.
