Wilmington, N.C. - Heading into the 2008 season, one of the question marks for the Fordham baseball team was the bullpen, and it still is following a doubleheader sweep by UNC-Wilmington over Fordham, 12-6 and 16-0. On the day, the Fordham bullpen gave up 17 earned runs on the afternoon.

With the losses, Fordham is 0-4, while UNC-Wilmington moves to 4-4.

In game one, things looked promising for Fordham, as they grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first on a solo home run by Eric Reese, his first of the season.

The Seahawks quickly knotted the game at one in the bottom half of the first, but Fordham responded with three runs in the second. Michael Taddei led off with a single, and moved to second when Bobby DiNardo was hit by a pitch. After a pair of outs were recorded, Alex Kenny reached on an infield single, scoring Taddei. The Rams picked up their second run on an error, and later loaded the bases for Reese, who drew a walk to force in a run.

UNC-Wilmington pulled to within one at 4-3 in the fourth, but Fordham regained a three-run edge in the fifth, 6-3. Rich Goulian opened the inning with a walk and stole second. Chris Kaible was then hit by a pitch. After a double steal by Goulian and Kaible, Taddei ripped a two-run single to center.

The Seahawks then got to the Fordham starter Peter Kennelly in the bottom half of the inning, as a single, three walks and two wild pitches would force Kennely out of the game. He went 4 2/3 innings, allowing five earned runs on six hits and eight walks.

Angelo Ponte came on in relief of Kennelly and got out of the fifth with a 6-5 lead. The Seahawks though scored four times in the bottom of the sixth, taking a 9-6 lead, highlighted by a three-run home run by Nate Hall.

The Seahawks tacked on a run in the seven and two in the eighth, as they went on to a 12-6 win.

For Fordham, Michael Taddei and Alex Kenny were each 2-for-3 at the plate, while Eric Reese was 2-for-4 with a home run.

In game two, nothing went Fordham's way as four UNC-Wilmington pitchers combined for a three-hit shutout of the Rams.

The Seahawks knocked Fordham starter Brando Casalicchio (0-1) out of the game in the third, as Casalicchio gave up six runs in two innings of work on four hits and three walks.

The Seahawks led 8-0 by the end of the third innings, before scoring three times in the fifth and five times in the sixth to close out the scoring.

Fordham managed just three hits in the game, one each from Reese, Ryan David and Rob Iacono, while only two runners reached third.

The Rams and Seahwaks will conclude their four-game series on Sunday with a single game on Sunday, beginning at 1:00 PM.
