Softball Snaps Four-Game Slide With Win Over Oklahoma State

Clearwater, Fla. - Fordham's Allison Twarowski threw six shutout innings of relief, while helping her own cause with three this and two RBI, as the Rams snapped a four-game slide with a 5-3 win over Oklahoma State at the Under Armour/USF Showcase in Clearwater, Fla.

With the win, Fordham moves to 8-13 on the season, while Oklahoma State goes to 14-13 overall.

After retiring the first three batters of the game, Fordham quickly went down 3-0 in the second inning, as Oklahoma State got to Fordham starter Beckah Wiggins. Kim Kaye led off the inning with a solo home run to right. The Cowgirls then got three straight singles, capped by a two-run single by Ashley Boyd to lead 3-0.

Fordham cut the lead to 3-1 in the bottom half of the inning on a RBI-single by Meghan Shager, scoring Jessica Weckenman, who reached on a fielder's choice and moved to second on a walk to Samantha Pellechio.

That score held true until Fordham tied the game at three in the bottom of the fifth. Twarowski and Melissa Andrews started the inning with back-to-back infield singles. After a passed ball advanced the runners, Twarowski scored on a fielder's choice by Jocelyn Dearborn. The Rams then got a run on a ground out by Megan Waldron, scoring Andrews from third.

The Rams then grabbed a 5-3 lead in the sixth, as Weckenman led off with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch. After Sarah Campbell came in to pinch run for Weckenman, Pellechio reached on a infield single with Campbell going to third. After a stolen base by Pellechio, Twarowski knocked a two-run single through the right side, scoring Campbell and Pellechio for a 5-3 lead.

Twarowski was able to hold that lead against Oklahoma State in the seventh with a pair of fly balls and a strikeout to end the game.

For Fordham, Allison Twarowski improved to 4-3 on the season, pitching six innings of four-hit relief with two strikeouts. She also led the offense, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Samantha Pellechio was 2-for-2 with a stolen base.

The Fordham softball team will conclude play at the Under Armour/USF Showcase on Sunday with a 9:30 AM game against Purdue and a 2:00 PM tilt against host USF.
