Bronx, N.Y. - The phrase "speed kills" could have applied to the Fordham Rams this afternoon, as they swiped a season-high eight stolen bases, as the Rams topped the Fairfield Stags, 9-6, to open a seven-game home stretch at Houlihan Park.

With the win, Fordham (7-5) has won seven straight games and 12 straight at home. The win also marked a milestone as Fordham head coach Nick Restaino captured his 100th win at Fordham.

The game didn't start out well for Fordham, as Fairfield jumped out to a 4-0 lead by the third inning.

Fordham cut the lead in half to 4-2 with two runs in the fourth inning, as the Rams stole five bases in the inning. Rich Goulian started the frame with a walk, stole second, and scored on an error by the Fairfield shortstop. Eric Reese, who reached on the error, then stole second, moved to third on a ground out, and scored on a single by Bobby DiNardo. The damage could been more following walks to Mickey White and Rob Iacono, but Alex Kenny lined into a double play to end the threat.

The Rams then took a 6-4 lead with a four-run sixth inning. After Fairfield reliever Justin Servino got the first two outs, the Rams loaded the bases on walks to Iacono and P.J. Como, and a single by Kenny. Danny Leach drew another walk to force in Iacono, making it 4-3.

Dan Gallagher then came into pitch for Fairfield, but Goulian greeted him with a bases clearing double to give Fordham a 6-4 lead.

Fordham increased the lead to 9-4 on an RBI-single by Iacono in the seventh and a two-run single by Chris Kaible in the eighth inning.

Fairfield was able to get two runs off Fordham reliever John Flanagan in the ninth, but J.P. Mack got the final two outs of the game to record his first save of the year.

For Fordham, Tom Davis (2-0) picked up the win, allowing one earned run on seven hits with six strikeouts, while John Flanagan threw 2 1/3 innings of relief with three strikeouts. At the plate, Danny Leach was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two stolen bases, while P.J. Como also had two hits and two runs scored.

The Fordham baseball team will next be in action on Saturday, March 15th, as they host Sacred Heart University in a doubleheader starting at 1:00 PM at Houlihan Park. Please note that this is a change from the orginal schedule which had just one game scheduled for Saturday. Also please note that the game scheduled with Albany on Sunday has been cancelled.
