Women's Basketball Falls To Dayton, 56-39

Bronx, N.Y. - Dayton's Nikki Oakland scored a game-high 19 points to go with nine rebounds, while Brittany Holterman had a double-double, as the Flyers shut down the Fordham Rams, 56-39, at the Rose Hill Gym on Saturday afternoon.

The Rams struggled early on offensively, as Dayton opened up an 11-2 lead, 5:41 into the game. The lead extended to 13 at the halfway point of the period, but Fordham got seven straight points to close within six, highlighted by a three-pointer from Annie Zopf. Fordham cut the lead to two, 29-27, with 1:30 left on a jumper by Kassie Humphries. Dayton however got a basket and free throw make from Brittany Holterman to lead by five, 32-27, at the break.

Humphries scored the first basket of the second half to bring the Rams to within three, 35-32, but the Rams then went cold shooting, as Fordham went four for the next 32 from the field, as Dayton locked down defensively.

Dayton blocked a total of ten shots on the day, while holding Fordham to just 15.2% shooting and 12 total points in the second half. For the game, Fordham was 3-for-23 from three-point range (13.0%), including 1-of-16 in the second half.

For Fordham, Annie Zopf scored a team-high 11 points to go with four assists, while Megan Mahoney and Kassie Humphries each had nine points and five rebounds.

The Fordham women's basketball team will next be in action on Saturday, February 16th, as they play at Atlantic 10 opponent, the La Salle University Explorers, beginning at 1:00 PM.
