It was Senior Day for the Fordham women's basketball team today, as senior Beth Troutt made her final home appearance this evening against the Charlotte 49ers at the Rose Hill Gym. She put forth a solid final effort in front of the home crowd with 14 points and four three-pointers, but it was enough to stop the 49ers, as Fordham was downed, 79-55.
The game started in Charlotte's favor, as the 49ers netted the first ten points of the game to open up a double figure lead. The Rams managed just five baskets in the half, shooting 18.5% in the period, as Charlotte built their lead to 38-18 at the half. Charlotte capitalized on 15 Fordham turnovers in the first half, turning them into 16 points. Charlotte's Sabrina Gregory did most of the damage, scoring 12 points, while Fordham was led by Annie Zopf's eight points and four rebounds.
The Rams had a better second half, as the Rams hit eight three-pointers in the period, led by Troutt with four of them. The Rams played even with the 49ers over the entire second period, making just four turnovers, while scoring 37 points to Charlotte's 41, eventually falling by 24.
For Fordham, Annie Zopf netted a game-high 18 points to go with five rebounds, while Beth Troutt scored 14 points. Megan Mahoney also chipped in 14 points and three rebounds.
Charlotte improved to 17-12 on the year, 8-5 in the league, as Sabrina Gregory netted 17 points, while Danielle Burgin had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
The Fordham women's basketball team will have their final regular season game on Saturday, March 1st, as they play at 15th-ranked George Washington, beginning at 2:00 PM.
