Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham volleyball team celebrated Senior Day on Sunday afternoon, and put forth a valiant comeback attempt against George Washington, but came up just short of their sixth straight win, falling in five sets at the Rose Hill Gym. Final set scores were 33-31, 26-24, 21-25, 22-25, and 15-9.

With the loss, Fordham is now 17-15 overall, 5-7 in the Atlantic 10, while George Washington improved to 16-9 overall, 7-4 in the league.

In set one, both teams had multiple set points as the momentum shifted on every point. George Washington's first set point came at 24-22, but Fordham's Jenna Hart came up with a kill, followed by a Colonial error to tie the set at 24. Fordham then got set point on a block by Hart and Christi Griffiths, but Leah Hill responded with a kill to tie the set. The score would be eventually tied at 30, with the Colonials getting another set point following a service error. Katie Butz then won the set with a kill, 33-31.

Set two was much like the first, as it came down to the final few points. Griffiths tied the score at 24 for Fordham, but another service error by the Rams, one of 14 on the day, gave the Colonials set point. George Washington then got a kill from Liz Moult to go up by two sets, 26-24.

Fordham finally got into an offensive grove in set three, leading for most of the set, and winning by four, 25-21. Fordham hit .406 as a team in the set, led by Griffiths and Wells, who each had six kills.

Set four didn't look good for Fordham early on, as they went down by six points, 13-7, on a George Washington block. The Rams though clawed all the way back even at 19 all on a service ace by Bianca Hernandez. Kailee May then registered three straight kills to give Fordham a 22-19 edge, and eventually score the set-winning kill at 25-22 to force a fifth set.

In the fifth set however, George Washington took advantage of some early attack errors, moving out to an 8-3 lead. The Rams closed back within two, 10-8, on a kill by Wells, but the Colonials would score five of the next six points to capture the match with a 15-9 win in set five.

For Fordham, Christi Griffiths led the attack with 22 kills, while Kailee May had 19 kills and 11 digs. Katherine Burrell, playing in her last home match, recorded 63 assists and 14 digs with Katie Wells having 17 kills.

Both teams are tied for the final spot in the Atlantic 10 Championship with the winner of next's week match moving on to St. Louis, Missouri.
