Polo Pulls Out Pair of Wins at Claremont Convergence Tournament

Claremont, Calif. - After dropping the first two matches on the first day of competition at the 2008 Claremont Convergence Tournament on Saturday, the Fordham University polo Rams rebounded to win two games on day two, defeating Pomona-Pitzer, 9-6, and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 9-8, in overtime. With the wins, Fordham improves to 8-7 on the season.

In the Pomona Pitzer game, the Rams led 3-2 at the half but exploded for five goals in the third to take a commanding 8-4 lead. Alex Powell, Ryan Hultman, Andrew McKernin, Martin de Jong and Scott Nemecek each scored for Fordham in the third period.

Powell led the way in the game, scoring three goals while Timmy Will made 13 saves in net for the Rams.

In the second game of the day, the Rams pulled out a 9-8 overtime win thanks to three goals from Powell and two from Hultman. Nemecek, Tim Simo, Todd Conway and Daniel Muñoz each netted a goal for the Rams while Will recorded 12 saves in net.

The Rams will next be in action on Friday, October 10th, as they host Brown University in the Messmore Aquatics Center at 7:30 p.m.
