Duquesne's Annie Reid scored in the 11th minute on a 20-yard shot to give the Dukes a 1-0 win over the Fordham Rams on Jack Coffey Field. With the loss, Fordham goes to 6-4-1 overall, 3-1 in the Atlantic 10, while Duquesne moves to 4-3-3 on the year, 2-1-1 in the conference.
Duquesne scored the lone goal of the contest at the 10:16 mark. The Dukes put the ball into the box, which was headed out by Fordham's Lauren Bustos. Duquesne's Annie Reid then got the loose ball and fired a 20-yard shot, which found the left side of the net for her third goal of the season.
Fordham put on the pressure throughout the rest of the game, trying to find the equalizer. The Rams had two shots by Katie McDermott following Duquesne fouls, but both went high, while a shot from Katie Sanchez just missed the crossbar.
In the second half, Courtney Fedge had a header on net, but the ball hit the crossbar and and came back to Kim Boulos, who fired another shot, but was stopped by Duquesne goalkeeper Gabby Morrin.
Morrin was able to keep the Fordham offense off the scoreboard, making 11 saves in the game. Fordham posted 18 shots on the afternoon, compared to five for Duquesne. In net for Fordham, Jen Byer made one save.
The Fordham women's soccer team will next be in action on Friday, October 10th, as they play at La Salle, beginning at 5:00 PM.
