Volleyball Sweeps Match From Hofstra

Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham volleyball bounced back from a tough weekend with an outstanding three-set sweep of the Hofstra Pride at the Rose Hill Gym on Tuesday. Final set scores were 25-19, 25-17, and 25-23. It was the first win for Fordham over Hofstra since 1997.

With the win, Fordham improves to 12-13 overall, while Hofstra falls to 10-11 on the year.

The two teams started out evenly with set one tied at 18, but Fordham went on a quick run to go up 21-18 with Katherine Burrell and Christi Griffiths both registering a kill. After Hofstra closed within two, the Rams finished out the set with the final four points, capped with a service ace by Kailee May to win, 25-19.

Set two was all Fordham from the start as the Rams got out to a 7-1 lead and never looked back. Fordham led by as many as nine points in the set and eventually won by eight, 25-17.

In set three, Fordham took control at the midway point, 21-15, following back-to-back service aces from Griffiths. Hofstra however fought back to within one, 23-22, on a kill from Harmonie Calinda. The Rams though would hold on for a third set 25-23 win, capped by a kill from Sara Friede.

For Fordham, Katherine Burrell led the way with 39 assists, 12 digs, and four kills, while Katie Wells registered a match-high 13 kills. Christi Griffiths and Sara Friede each added eight kills, with Kailee May having seven kills and 10 digs. Defensively, Megan Arend had a match-high 17 digs.

The Fordham volleyball team will next be in action on Friday, October 24th, as they play at George Washington, beginning at 7:00 PM.
