For the first two periods, the Fordham polo squad was giving 18th-ranked Brown University all it could handle, leading 2-1 after the first eight minutes and trailing only by two goals at the half, 7-5. But the Bruins outscored Fordham 5-1 in the second half for a 12-6 Northern Division win in the Messmore Aquatics Center. With the loss, the Rams fall to 8-8 overall on the year, 0-2 in the Northern Division, while Brown improves to 7-5 overall, 4-0 in the conference.
After Brown scored first, 1:34 into the match, the Rams scored twice to take a 2-1 lead at the end of the first. Daniel Muñoz and Scott Nemecek tallied the Fordham goals.
The Rams increased the leads to 3-1 on a Tim Simo goal 38 seconds into the second period before Brown responded with four straight goals to take a 5-3 lead with 2:30 left in the half.
Another Nemecek tally eleven seconds later brought the Rams back to within one, 5-4, before the Bruins closed out the half with two goals, including one at the buzzer, to take a 7-5 halftime lead.
Brown opened the second half with three goals over the first 5:30 before Muñoz netted one for Fordham with 26 seconds left in the third, cutting Fordham's deficit to four, 10-6.
But Brown scored twice in the final three minutes of the game to secure the 12-6 win.
Nemecek and Muñoz each finished with two goals for the Rams wile Simo and Alex Powell added one. Timmy Will finished with four saves in the Fordham net.
The Rams will next be in action on Saturday, October 11th, as they host MIT in a Northern Division match in the Messmore Aquatics Center at 11:00 a.m.
