Fordham's Katie Sanchez registered a goal and an assist, while Michaela Murphy scored her first collegiate goal, as the Fordham Rams topped the La Salle Explorers, 2-1, at McCarthy Stadium in Philadelphia, Pa.
With the win, Fordham improves to 7-4-1 overall, 4-1 in the Atlantic 10, while La Salle falls to 5-6-2 overall, 1-3-1 in the league.
Fordham opened the scoring in the 25th minute, as Michaela Murphy scored her first career goal. Off an Alexis Ribadeneyra corner kick, Katie Sanchez headed the ball back to Murphy, who kicked it into an open net.
Sanchez then found the back of the net in the 51st minute to give Fordham a 2-0 lead. Sanchez fired a shot off the post, collected her own rebound, and scored her fourth goal of the season.
La Salle cut the Fordham lead in half in the 69th minute as Heather Steadman scored on a header off a Dana Giordano cross, but the Fordham defense held off La Salle for the 2-1 victory.
In net, Fordham's Elisabeth Roald made four saves, while Amy Grant had six saves for the Explorers. Fordham finished the game with an 18-13 shot advantage.
The Fordham women's soccer team will next be in action on Friday, October 17th as they play at Saint Joseph's for a 7:00 PM game.
