Seton Hall's Rachael Thornquist posted a match-high 12 kills, while Brittany Rahrer had 24 assists and seven digs, as the Pirates topped the Fordham Rams, 3-0, on Wednesday night at Walsh Gymnasium in South Orange, N.J. Set scores were 25-12, 25-22, and 25-21.
With the loss, Fordham falls to 10-8 overall, while Seton Hall improves to 8-8.
The match started out even at 9-9 in the first set, before Seton Hall reeled off 13 straight points to take control of set one.
In set two, Seton Hall opened with the first four points, and led by three, 15-12, midway through the set. Fordham then tied the match at 16, following kills from Kailee May and Katie Wells.
The Pirates though regained their three-point edge, 23-20, before a Sara Friede kill and a block by Wells and May, closed the gap to one, 23-22. The Pirates though closed out the set, as Sarah Osmun recorded a kill and a service ace to win the set, 25-22.
In set three, the score was tied at eight before the Pirates registered nine of 12 points to grab a 17-11. Fordham tried to get back into the set, closing to within three, 22-19, after a block and a kill by Jolanda Gunning-Snowden. The Rams however would not get any closer, falling 25-21.
For Fordham, Sara Friede posted a team-high nine kills, while Jolanda Gunning-Snowden had eight kills and two blocks. Katie Wells added five kills and four blocks, while Bridget Tarantino recorded 15 digs.
The Fordham volleyball team will next be in action on Saturday, October 4th, as they play at Villanova, beginning at 4:00 PM.
