Women's Basketball Downed By Duquesne

Bronx, N.Y. - Four Duquesne Dukes scored in double figures, which included a double-double from Samantha Pollino, as the Dukes topped the Fordham Rams, 66-42, at the Rose Hill Gym on Sunday.

With the loss, Fordham drops to 0-20 on the year, 0-5 in the Atlantic 10, while Duquesne improves to 11-9 overall, 2-3 in the league.

Neither team came out of the blocks quickly as Duquesne led Fordham, 14-11, with under eight minutes left in the first half. After Duquesne upped the lead to seven, Fordham closed back to within three points of the Dukes, 19-16, as Kristina Bell netted a fast break lay-up. Duquesne though outscored the Rams, 11-2, to close out the period with a 12-point lead, 30-18, going into halftime.

At the half, Duquesne posted a 26-17 rebounding advantage, while holding Fordham to under 30% shooting in the half. Duquesne's Kristi Little and Fordham's Megan Mahoney were the respective leading scorer with nine points each.

Duquesne continued to have the hot hand at the start of second half, increasing their lead to 20 early in the frame at 43-23. The Dukes posted as many as a 24-point lead in the second half, going on to win by that margin. They kept the Rams in check at 30.9% shooting for the game, while out rebounding Fordham, 52-34, which included 18 offensive rebounds.

For Fordham, Megan Mahoney posted her fifth 20-point game of the season with 21 points and six rebounds, while Kristina Bell scored a season-high 14 points to go with eight rebounds, and three steals.

Duquesne's Samantha Pollino posted a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, while Keri Pryor had 14 points and six rebounds. Amanda Peck and Kristi Little also netted 12 points each for the Dukes.

The Fordham women's basketball team will next be in action on Wednesday, January 30th, as they play at Atlantic 10 opponent, the University of Massachusetts, beginning at 11:45 AM.
