Women's Basketball Falls To St. Bonaventure, 59-49

St. Bonaventure, N.Y. - With temperature around 15 degrees outside, it was a hot and competitive game inside the Reilly Center, as the Rams and Bonnies were in a seesaw affair, that saw St. Bonaventure take a 59-49 victory.

Fordham is now 0-19 overall, 0-4 in the Atlantic 10, while St. Bonaventure improves to 13-6 on the year, 1-3 in the league.

The game opened out evenly as all five Rams scored a basket to put the game at 10-10 with 12 minutes left in the first half. St. Bonaventure then took a 17-10 lead, before Fordham cut it to 17-14 following a fast break basket by Annie Zopf. Fordham remained down four, 22-18, with under four minutes left, primarily due to Dana Mitchell, who scored 12 of the Bonnies' 22 points. Fordham though would be down just two at the break, 26-24, as Kristina Bell scored six of the final eight points for Fordham heading into halftime.

At the half, St. Bonaventure's Dana Mitchell led all scorers with 12 points and four rebounds, while Fordham's Kristina Bell and Annie Zopf had eight and six points, respectively.

The Bonnies extended their lead to five at the start of the second half on a three-pointer by Katelynn Murray, but Fordham's Megan Mahoney netted back-to-back baskets to close the gap to 35-32 with 15:44 left. After going back down five, Fordham cut the lead to one, as Beth Troutt connected from three-point range to make it a 37-36 game with 11:17 remaining. St. Bonaventure then grabbed their largest lead of the game at six points on a jumper by Murray, but Fordham responded with a hoop by Mahoney, leaving Fordham down four, 44-40, with 7:00 left.

After Fordham again closed the gap to three, Mitchell hit a pair of buckets to push the Bonnies' lead to 48-43 with five minutes left. Ashley Edwards and Andrea Doneth then scored for the Bonnies, giving them their largest lead at 52-43 with just over three minutes remaining.

Fordham wouldn't go away getting the deficit back to five, 54-49, on jumpers by Mahoney and Kassie Humphries with 1:11 to go. St. Bonaventure though would connect on 5-of-6 free throws over the final minute to close out a 59-49 win.

For Fordham, the Rams committed a season-low 11 turnovers, while grabbing a season-high 14 steals in the game. Megan Mahoney led the way with 15 points, seven rebounds, and three steals, while Kristina Bell scored a season-high 10 points to go with three boards and three steals. Annie Zopf also netted 10 points to go with three steals.

St. Bonaventure's Dana Mitchell had a game-high 21 points to go with six rebounds, while Katelynn Murray had 13 points and three steals.

The Fordham women's basketball team will next be in action on Sunday, January 27th, as they host Duquesne University at the Rose Hill Gym for an Atlantic 10 contest, beginning at 2:00 PM. The game will be televised on CSTV and Fordham will run their "Pack the House" promotion to set a new single game attendance record.
