Women's Basketball Outlasted By Navy

Annapolis, Md. - Navy's Cassie Consedine scored 15 second half points, while K.C. Gordon scored a game-high 17 points to push Navy (4-10) to a 55-45 win over the Fordham Rams (0-14) at Alumni Hall in Annapolis, Md.

Neither team scored in the first half until Fordham's Kassie Humphries broke the scoreless tie with a basket at the 4:44 mark. Navy would get a pair of three point baskets from K.C. Gordon and Emily Lyren to move out to a 10-7 lead with 11:57 remaining in the period. The teams went basket for basket, as Beth Troutt gave the Rams a brief lead at 11-10, while Navy recaptured the lead on a basket by Gordon. The Rams regained the lead on a jumper by Mahoney and stretched the lead to three, 19-16, on a basket by Alexandria Zamora with 3:51 remaining.

The Rams then took that three-point lead into halftime, leading 23-20, as Fordham held Navy to just 8-of-30 shooting (26.7%). The Rams also finished the half with a 24-22 rebounding edge, as Kristina Bell led all players with six boards. Fordham's Megan Mahoney led all scorers with eight points, while Alexandria Zamora had six at the break.

After Navy picked up a pair of baskets, Mahoney nailed a three-pointer to keep Fordham ahead 28-24 with 17:50 to go. After Navy knotted the game at 34, Gordon canned another three-pointer and a quick jumper to give Navy a 39-34 lead with 11:09 remaining. The Rams pushed right back, tying the game at 40 on a jumper by Annie Zopf, and then grabbed a two-point lead on two free throws by Mahoney. Fordham continued to lead by two (44-42) with under four minutes to play, but Cassie Consedine scored six straight points to give Navy a 48-45 lead. Navy extended that lead on free throws and win by ten.

For Fordham, Megan Mahoney netted a team-high 15 points to go with seven rebounds and four assists, while Annie Zopf had seven points and three assists. Kristina Bell also had a game-high 11 rebounds to go with three assists for the Rams.

For Navy, K.C. Gordon was 7-of-14 from the field for 17 points, while adding five rebounds and three assists, while Cassie Consedine had 15 points and four blocks.

The Fordham women's basketball team will next be in action on Saturday, January 5th, as they host Longwood University at the Rose Hill Gym for their final non-conference game. Game time is set for 1:00 PM.
