Women's Basketball Falls to La Salle, 68-59

Bronx, N.Y. - Despite a career-high 21 points from Fordham's Kassie Humphries, five La Salle players scored in double figures to lead the Explorers to a 68-59 Atlantic 10 victory over the Fordham Rams at the Rose Hill Gym on Saturday.

With the loss, Fordham remains winless at 0-18 overall, 0-3 in conference play, while La Salle evened their record at 9-9 overall, 1-2 in the league.

Fordham took the early lead at 9-6, as Kristina Bell netted a fast break basket six minutes into the game. The Rams continued to hold that lead, 13-10, courtesy of Kassie Humphries, who scored eight points over the first ten minutes of the half. After La Salle tied the game at 17, the Explorers closed out the half with a 13-6 push to lead 30-23 at the half.

At the half, La Salle shot 50% from the field, committing just three turnovers, as Alyse Hoover led La Salle scorers with eight points, while Kassie Humphries had eight points and five boards for Fordham.

La Salle quickly boosted their lead to ten, 35-25, on a three-pointer by Jamie Walsh in the second half. La Salle extended their lead to 12 with 8:16 remaining, before Fordham cut it back to seven on a basket and three-pointer by Megan Mahoney. The Rams stayed down seven with just over a minute remaining on another Mahoney three, but that is as close as Fordham would get.

For Fordham, Kassie Humphries scored a career-high 21 points to go with six rebounds, while Megan Mahoney netted 16 points and three assists. Annie Zopf chipped in 10 points, seven assists, and six rebounds, while Kristina Bell had a game-high 11 rebounds.

La Salle had five players score in double figures, as Carlene Hightower and Morgan Robertson each had 13 points, while Alyse Hoover and Melanie Gibbons had 12. Margaret Elderton also netted 11 points for the Explorers.

The Fordham women's basketball team will next be in action on Wednesday, January 23rd, as they play at Atlantic 10 opponent St. Bonaventure University at 7:00 PM.
