Sanchez Scores in Overtime For 2-1 Fordham Win

Easton, Pa. - Fordham junior Katie Sanchez scored at the 104:11 mark of the second overtime for her second game-winning goal of the season, as Fordham topped Lafayette, 2-1, in Easton, Pa. With the win, Fordham improves to 2-0, while Lafayette falls to 1-3.

Fordham opened the scoring in the first half in the 23rd minute, as freshman Katie McDermott scored her first collegiate goal off a rebound to the lower left corner of the net. Fordham took that lead into the half, as the Rams out shot Lafayette, 11-3 in the period.

Lafayette then knotted the game at one in the 59th minute, as Caroline Tuttle knocked in her second goal of the season, off a corner kick from Lauren Hinkel.

The game stayed tied at one until the 105th minute of the second overtime, as Sanchez took a low shot to the far post, beating Lafayette goalkeeper Mary Kate Erdman for her second game-winning goal of the year.

In net, Jen Byer made five saves in the win for Fordham, while Erdman made six saves. Fordham finished the game with a 21-10 edge in shots. Sanchez and Alexis Ribadeneyra each had six shots in the game for the Rams, while McDermott posted five.

The Fordham women's soccer team will next be in action on Sunday, September 9th, as they play at Manhattan College, beginning at 10:00 AM.
