Hempstead, N.Y. - Hofstra's Brooke DeRosa had a goal and an assist as the Pride defeated the Fordham Rams, 2-0, in women's soccer action on Saturday night at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.

With the win, Hofstra improves to 6-1 on the season, while Fordham slips to 3-2-1 overall.

Hofstra opened the scoring at the 8:06 mark, as Diane Caldwell sent a long ball towards the right corner flag. DeRosa ran the ball down and chipped a cross into the center of the box. Jill Lipari settled underneath it and snapped a header from six yards out under the crossbar to make the score 1-0.

DeRosa gave the Pride a 2-0 lead with 4:02 left in the half. Sue Weber won a ball in the defensive end and made a long run up the middle of the field. She then fed DeRosa with her back to goal from 40 yards out. DeRosa shook free of two Fordham defenders and sped past another before calmly slipping a low shot from 18 yards out that tucked into the lower-right corner for her fifth goal of the season.

The Pride posted a 23-7 edge in shots, however, Fordham did have some quality chances. Courtney Fedge missed wide from 15 yards in the first half, while Alexis Ribadeneyra made a bid to chip the ball over the head of goalkeeper Krystal Robens midway through the second half, but Robens leapt up to make one of her two saves on the day to get her second shutout of the season.

Elisabeth Roald had four first-half saves for Fordham, while Jen Byer came on in relief in the second half and made five saves to keep the score 2-0.

The Fordham women's soccer team will next be in action on Tuesday, September 25th, as the Rams host Army at 7:00 PM on Jack Coffey Field.
