Santa Clara, Calif. -
Alex Powell scored four times and Paul Shewsbury added a pair of goals but it wasn't enough as the Fordham University water polo squad fell to host Santa Clara University, 14-9, in the Rams' second game of their current west coast trip. With the loss, the Rams fall to 3-6 while the Broncos improve to 4-6.
The Rams were down 4-2 after the first quarter and trailed 6-4 in the second period when two Santa Clara players were ejected, giving the Rams a two-man advantage. But Fordham couldn't take advantage of the man-up situation and entered the half down, 7-5.
The Broncos scored the first two goals of the third quarter to take a 10-6 lead and never looked back.
Powell added a pair of assists for the Rams while Todd Conway, Ryan Hultman and Danny Munoz each added a goal, with Conroy and Holtman each also registering three assists.
Timmy Will recorded eight saves in the Fordham net.
The Rams will next be in action on Friday, September 21st as they open play at the Santa Cruz Slugfest with a game against the host UC-Santa Cruz Banana Slugs at 7:00 PM (EST).
