(Niagara Falls, N.Y) - The Fordham University women's volleyball squad earned a split of matches on day two at the Western New York Invitational held at Niagara University, falling to the University of South Florida, 3-1, while defeating Niagara, 3-1.
In match two against Niagara, the two teams were tied at 18 in game one, before Fordham reeled of six straight points to earn a 24-18 advantage and go on to win, 30-27. With the score, 22-18 in game two, Fordham went on an 8-1 run to close out that game, 30-19, as they hit .367 in that game. Niagara did win game three, 30-23, but Fordham put the Purple Eagles away with a 30-14 score in game four, hitting .351 as a team.
Christi Griffiths (Lancaster, Pa.) again led the way for Fordham with 16 kills, six digs, and a .423 hitting percentage, while Jenna Hart (Birmingham, Mich.) had 11 kills and three blocks. Katherine Burrell (Phoenix, Ariz.) posted 39 assists, nine digs, and four blocks, while defensively Stephanie Frost (Columbus, Ind.) and Sara Friede (Rockford, Ill.) each had 11 digs.
The Fordham volleyball team will next be in action on Friday, September 7th, as they begin play at the Syracuse Invitational. They will take on Texas Tech at 4:30 PM, and then meet Syracuse and Princeton on Saturday.
