LOYOLA (MD) 2, FORDHAM 1

Bronx, N.Y. (September 2, 2007) - In a game that saw just eight total shots, Loyola's Jamie Darvill and Tennant McVea scored eight minutes apart in the first half, leading the Loyola Greyhounds to a 2-1 win over the Fordham Rams on Jack Coffey Field.

With the loss, Fordham evens its record at 1-1, while Loyola improves to 2-0.

Loyola opened the scoring in the 11th minute, following a Fordham foul. Julian Cantillo took the free kick, crossing to Jamie Darvill, who headed it past Fordham goalkeeper Justin Burse (Louisville, Ky.) from 10 yards to the far post.

Just 8:24 later, Cantillo took a corner kick for Loyola, which found Tennant McVea for the header goal from five yards.

The comeback for Fordham was hard to come by early in the second half, as Nasar Quaye received a red card in the 52nd minute, leaving the Rams to play a man down.

Fordham did close the gap to 2-1 in the 73rd minute. A scrum in front of the net caused a hand ball by Loyola, giving Fordham a penalty kick. Kevin Meyer (South Windsor, Conn.) made it count, scoring his first of the season.

The Rams tried desperately down the stretch to get the tying goal, but came up short, giving Loyola the win.

In net, Burse made one save in net for Fordham, while Loyola's Milos Kocic did not record a save. Loyola finished the game with a 5-3 edge in shots.

The Fordham Men's Soccer team will next be in action on Friday, September 7th, as they open play at the Brown/adidas Tournament in Providence, Rhode Island. The Rams will meet Boston University at 5:00 PM, and then take on host Brown at 2:00 PM on Sunday.
