Seton Hall Wins Rose Hill Classic Title

Bronx, N.Y. - Seton Hall posted a pair of wins over Central Connecticut State and Quinnipiac to capture the 2007 Rose Hill Classic title on Saturday afternoon at the Rose Hill Gym. In other action, Fordham splits their two matches, defeating Quinnipiac and falling to Central Connecticut State.

In the first match of the day, Seton Hall outlasted Central Connecticut State in five games, 30-20, 25-30, 30-27, 28-30, and 15-4. The big difference in the match was Seton Hall's service game, as they tied a tournament record with 16 aces. Seton Hall's Tricia Meyers posted 23 kills and three aces, while Allie Matters had nine kills and 24 digs. CCSU's Laura Snyder also found her way into the record book with a tournament record 26 killsto go with 11 digs, while Katie Karkow had 16 kills and three blocks.

In match two, Fordham swept Quinnipiac in three games by scores of 30-15, 30-28, and 30-11. Fordham hit. 330 in the match, led by Christi Griffiths, who recorded 11 kills and two blocks, while Katie Wells had nine kills and two blocks. Katherine Burrell also had a superb game for Fordham with four kills, 33 assists, seven service aces, and seven digs.

In match three, Seton Hall completed a 3-0 mark at the Rose Hill Classic with a win over Quinnipiac. Final game scores were 30-17, 30-17, and 30-17. Seton Hall hit a .442 in the match and connected for 17 service aces. Allie Matters had 13 kills and eight digs for Seton Hall, while Michelle Vasapoli had seven kills and five digs for Quinnipiac.

In the final match of the day, Central Connecticut topped Fordham in four games by scores of 15-30, 30-25, 30-26, and 30-28. Lauren Snyder had another solid performance for CCSU with 18 kills, seven digs and three aces, while Jamie Baumert had 13 kills. For Fordham, Christi Griffiths posted 13 kills and eight blocks, while Katherine Burrell had six kills, 45 assists, nine digs, five blocks, and two aces. Katie Wells and Jolanda Gunning-Snowden had 13 and 12 kills respectively for the Rams.

Seton Hall's Tricia Meyers was named tournament MVP. The All-Tournament team consisted of Seton Hall's Allie Matters and Sarah Osmun, Central Connecticut's Lauren Snyder and Jamie Baumert, Fordham's Katie Wells, and Quinnipiac's Erin Overdevest.

The Fordham volleyball team will next be in action on Tuesday, September 18th, as they host 23rd ranked St. John's University at the Rose Hill Gym, beginning at 7:00 PM.
