Morgan Sims scored 3:16 into overtime to break a 1-1 tie and lead Stony Brook University to a 2-1 women's soccer win over Fordham at Jack Coffey Field. With the win, Stony Brook improves to 3-2 on the year while the Rams fall to 2-1-1.
On the game-winner, Trine Allenberg took a corner kick for the Seawolves and sent the ball into the box. The ball was batted around by a coupe of players before Sims jumped on the loose ball and beat Fordham keeper Jen Byer on the ground from ten yards with her first goal of the year.
Stony Brook took a 1-0 lead in the 49th minute as Kate Collins sent a long cross into the box and Danielle Tenaglia snuck between two Fordham defenders to one-time the ball past Byer for her second goal of the season.
Michelle Ancelj tied the game for the Rams in the 79th minute, settling a pass from Brittany Hogan at the top of the box and blasting a shot past Stony Brook keeper Marisa Viola for the first tally of her collegiate career.
The Rams had a chance to win the game in regulation when Katie Sanchez took a fed 40 yards out and got by the defense, only to have her shot from 15 yards punched down by Viola.
Viola made seven saves in the Stony Brook net as the Rams out shot the Seawolves 11-3 on the night.
Fordham will next be in action on Sunday, September 16th as the Rams host the Seton Hall Pirates on Jack Coffey Field at 1:00 pm.
