Bronx, N.Y. - Central Connecticut's Lauren Snyder recorded 10 kills, six digs and a pair of service aces, while Amanda Bayer had 27 assists, five aces, and five digs, the Central Connecticut State opened the 2007 Rose Hill Classic with a 3-0 win over Quinnipiac. In the night match, Seton Hall's Tricia Meyers posted 19 kills, while three other Pirates had double-doubles as Seton Hall defeated host Fordham, 3-1.
In the first match, Central Connecticut led throughout and posted 13 service aces in the match, while hitting .289 as a team. Quinnipiac struggled offensively, hitting only .021 in the match and had 10 service errors.
In match two, Fordham started out strong, taking game one, 30-25. The Rams held Seton Hall in check as the Pirates had 12 attack errors. In game two, Seton Hall led 28-22, before Fordham went on an 8-1 run to take the lead, 30-29, and get game point. Seton Hall though fought off six game points, and eventually won, 37-35. With the match knotted at one, Seton Hall took the momentum and won the final two games by scores of 30-25 and 30-24.
For Fordham, Kailee May posted a double-double with 19 kills and 14 digs, while Katherine Burrell had 52 assists and 13 digs. Katie Wells had her best performance as a Rams with 15 kills and a .481 hitting percentage, while Jolanda Gunning-Snowden posted 17 kills.
Besides Meyers, Seton Halls Allie Matters had 16 kills and 14 digs, while Sarah Osmun had 13 kills and 14 digs.
The 2007 Rose Hill Classic concludes tomorrow with four matches beginning at 9:00 AM with Central Connecticut and Seton Hall, followed by Fordham-Quinnipac, Quinnipiac-Seton Hall, and Fordham-Central Connecticut.
