Volleyball Drops Two at Big Orange Tournament

Syracuse, N.Y. - The Fordham volleyball team concluded their stay at the Big Orange Tournament, held at Syracuse University. The Rams dropped both matches today, falling to Syracuse, 3-0, and to Princeton, 3-2. Fordham is now 5-7 overall this season.

Against Syracuse, Fordham fell by scores of 30-25, 30-18, and 33-31. Syracuse hit .262 in the match, compared to .128 for Fordham.

For Fordham, Christi Griffiths led the way with 12 kills, while Kailee May had nine kills and nine digs. Jolanda Gunning-Snowden and Katie Wells chipped in with nine and eight kills, respectively.

Against Princeton, Fordham had three different match point opportunities, but couldn't close the match in five. Final game scores were 30-25, 28-30, 30-15, 32-34, and 20-18.

May posted a match-high 19 kills to go with nine digs, while Katherine Burrell just missed a triple-double with eight kills, 51 assists, and 10 digs. Griffiths, who was named to the All-Tournament team, had 18 kills and four blocks, with Wells adding 15 kills. Defensively, Stephanie Frost recorded 21 digs.

The Fordham volleyball team will next be in action on September 12th, when they play at Manhattan, beginning at 7:00 PM.
