Volleyball Ends Up With Split at WNY Invitational With Win Over Canisius

Buffalo, N.Y. - In their second match at the Western New York Invitational, Fordham outlasted Canisius in five games. With the split, Fordham is now 4-3 on the year.

Fordham survived a five-game match against Canisius winning by scores of 18-30, 30-24, 30-26, 22-30, and 15-8.

The match boiled down a decisive fifth game, that saw Canisius hit -.278 as a team, which led to nine of Fordham's 15 points. After Fordham opened with the first three points, Canisius closed to 5-3. The Rams then reeled off six straight points, capped by a Griffiths kill to lead, 11-3. After Canisius made it 13-7, Fordham closed out the game with kills from Katie Wells and May.

For Fordham, Christi Griffiths had 16 kills and nine blocks for the second straight match, while Kailee May added 14 kills and five digs. Jolanda Gunning-Snowden chipped in 13 kills, while Katherine Burrell recorded 52 assists, 10 digs, and three kills. Defensively, Stephanie Frost and Bridget Tarantino each had 10 digs.

The Rams have two more matches at the Western New York Invitational on Sunday, September 2nd. They play South Florida at 12:30 PM, followed by a match against Niagara at 4:30 PM. Both matches are in Niagara Falls, N.Y., with live stats available through the Niagara University website at www.purpleeagles.com.
