Volleyball falls to East Tennessee State at Georgia State Invitational

(August 25, 2007) - After playing two close matches yesterday, the Fordham volleyball team continued that trend today at the Georgia State Invitational in Atlanta, Ga. Unfortunately for the Rams, they came up on the wrong end in their first match, falling to East Tennessee State in three games.

Final game scores were 30-25, 30-26, and 30-25. Overall, East Tennessee outhit Fordham, .292 to .163, in the match.

East Tennessee's Desiree Dyck led the way with 18 kills, while Laura Waddell had 14. Marisa Mortensen dished out 41 assists to go with six digs in the win.

For Fordham, Katie Wells notched a team-high 11 kills, while Christi Griffiths had seven kills and three blocks. Katherine Burrell added five kills, 25 assists, and six digs.

Despite the loss, Fordham will still have a chance at the tournament championship if they defeat host Georgia State in the final match of the day.
