Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham Rams hit a number of season-highs in their women's basketball contest against the Iona Gaels this afternoon at the Rose Hill Gym, including scoring 62 points and having 13 assists. The Rams however could not contain the torrid shooting from Iona, as the Gaels defeated the Rams, 86-62.

The Rams are now 0-8 this season, while Iona improved to 2-4.

Iona came out of the gates, making shots from everywhere on the court, bursting out to a 17-4 lead just five minutes into the game, led by Lauren Defalco hitting three three-pointers. The Gaels stretched that lead to 23, 33-10, on a three-pointer by Catherine Lutz, with 10:17 left in the first half. With Iona up 22 with six minutes left, Fordham's Megan Mahoney and Annie Zopf put together an 8-0 run to get Fordham within 14, 43-29, with 4:54 left. Iona though closed out the period with a 15-5 push to lead by 24 going into the break.

Iona shot close to 70% from the field and was 9-of-14 from three-point range, as the Gaels had all 12 players score in the first half. Iona's Jessica Smith and Anda Ivkovic each had 10 points to lead all scorers, while Fordham's top scorer was Annie Zopf with eight.

The second half wasn't any kinder to the Fordham Rams, as Iona continued to lead by at least 20 points throughout the second half. Fordham cut the lead to 19 twice in the period, on a three-pointer by Beth Troutt with 11:27 left and on a lay-up by Kristina Bell with 2:42 remaining, but that was as close as the Rams would get.

For Fordham, Raina Spencer posted a season-high 14 points off the bench, while Megan Mahoney recorded 11 points and three assists. Beth Troutt netted ten points and two rebounds, with Annie Zopf having nine points, five assists, and three steals.
