Mt. Vernon, Va. - The Fordham men's soccer team looked to take a solid step toward clinching an Atlantic 10 playoff berth today at George Washington. Unfortunately, George Washington's Dave Leon scored his first two goals of the season, giving the Colonials a 3-2 victory over Fordham at the Mt. Vernon Athletic Complex.

With the loss, Fordham falls to 5-9-3 overall, 4-4 in the Atlantic 10, while George Washington goes to 8-8-2 overall, 2-4-2 in the conference.

George Washington got the scoring started early at the 5:53 mark, as Andy Stadler chipped a shot over Fordham goalkeeper Dan Hajducky, for his seventh goal of the season.

Fordham knotted the game at one with just over seven minutes remaining in the half. Dean Stanic blasted a shot from just outside the box, which deflected off a Colonial defender and into the net for his fifth goal of the season.

In the second half, George Washington struck for two goals in a span of 1:28, both coming off the foot of Dave Leon. In the 55th minute, Leon picked up a loose ball in the box, and scored his first of the season to the top right corner of the net.

Just 1:28 later, Stadler caught Hajducky out of the net, crossed the ball to Leon, who tapped it into the empty net for a 3-1 lead.

Fordham closed to within one in the 81st minute, as Kevin Meyer was able to bounce the ball over George Washington keeper Matt Scheer, which Brian Glennon tapped into the net for his first career goal.

Fordham had one more shot at tying the game in the final minute, as Stanic got off a shot, but Scheer made the save, ending the Rams' rally.

In net, Dan Hajducky had four saves for Fordham, while Matt Scheer made three saves for George Washington.

The Fordham men's soccer team will next be in action on Sunday, November 11th, as they play at Richmond, beginning at 1:00 PM.
