Volleyball Senior Night Ends With Sweep of Rutgers

In their final match before the home crowd, Fordham's senior class of Stephanie Frost, Lauren Fitzsimon, Bailey McKay, and Kate Nelson, gave the Fordham faithful one more outstanding performance, as Fordham swept Rutgers in three games at the Rose Hill Gym on Wednesday night. Final game scores were 30-17, 30-22, and 30-14.

With the win, Fordham improves to 14-18 overall, while Rutgers drops to 3-20.

Inspired by the senior class to give one final win to the home crowd, Fordham played extremely well, hitting .337 for the match, while connecting for a season-high 15 service aces. Five Fordham Rams had at least two service aces on the night, while six had at least five kills.

For Fordham, Lauren Fitzsimon was everywhere with eight kills, four aces, six digs and four blocks, while Sara Friede and Christi Griffiths each had six kills. Kate Nelson chipped in five kills and two blocks with Bailey McKay having two aces and two kills. Fordham's final senior also had a big night, as Stephanie Frost had a match-high 15 digs. In addition to those efforts, setter Katherine Burrell became the first Fordham Ram to reach 1,400 assists in a single season, as she had 36 assists to go with five digs and three kills.

For Rutgers, Kyra Thompson led the way with nine kills, while Sophie Cook had seven kills.

The Fordham volleyball team will next be in action on Friday, November 9th, as they play at Atlantic 10 opponent, La Salle, at 7:30 PM.
