Bronx, N.Y. -
Having dropped three of their last four Atlantic 10 matches, the Fordham Univeristy volleyball Rams knew they had to get back on track in order to have a chance to qualify for their second straight Atlantic 10 Championship. And the Rams took a step towards that goal at George Washington, coming back after trailing two games to one to take the conference match, 3-2, in the Smith Center.
With the win, Fordham improves to 13-18 overall, 4-7 in the Atlantic 10, while George Washington falls to 12-16 overall, 4-8 in the conference.
The Rams came out strong in the first game, defeating the Colonials 30-27, before dropping the second game, 30-19.
In the third game, George Washington built a 16-9 lead before Fordham cut the deficit 16-14 with five straight points, two of those on kills from Katie Wells. The Rams would eventually tie the game at 20 on another Wells kill, and then take a 29-26 lead but they couldn't close out the game as the Colonials came back to claim a 32-30 victory.
Fordham controlled play in game four, building a 17-12 lead en route to a 30-22 win as the Rams hit .400 in the game.
In the fifth game, George Washington led 14-11, needing just one more point for the win, when the Rams scored three straight points to knot the score 14. Later in the match, the game was tied at 17 when the Rams scored on an attack error and then on a Kailee May kill to wrap up the match with a 19-17 win.
Fordham was led by 23 points from Wells, one of five Rams with double figure kills on the day, on 22 kills and a pair of block assists while May added 18 kills and a match-high 26 digs and Christi Griffiths finished with 14 kills.
The Rams will next be in action on Wednesday, November 7th as they host the Rutgers University Scarlet Knights in the Rose Hill Gym at 7:00 PM.
