Playing without leading scorer Kevin Meyer due to a five-card suspension for one game, the Fordham men's soccer team knew it would be an uphill climb at Rhode Island this evening. Through the first 85 minutes, Fordham held tough, keeping the game scoreless, but Rhode Island's Lukasz Tumicz scored just past the 85:00 minute mark, giving URI a 1-0 win over Fordham.
With the loss, Fordham goes to 5-7-3 overall, 4-2 in the Atlantic 10, while Rhode Island improves to 6-7-2 on the year, 4-1-1 in the conference.
Rhode Island put together 19 shots in the game, compared to Fordham's seven.
In the final minutes of regulation, Rhode Island's Lukasz Tumicz and Steve Mellen connected on a give and go to break the deadlock, with Tumicz scoring to the right corner of the net for his ninth goal of the season.
For Fordham, Dean Stanic and Abe Chehebar led the offense with two shots each, while Dan Hajducky made five saves in net.
The Fordham men's soccer team will next be in action on Sunday, November 4th, as they play at Massachusetts, beginning at 1:00 PM.
