Volleyball Outlasted By Temple, 3-1

Charlotte, N.C. - As the final Fordham representative at the fall A-10 Championships, the Fordham volleyball team gave Temple everything they could handle, but eventually fell in four games to the Owls.

With the loss, Fordham ends the season at 15-20 overall, while Temple improves to 15-17.

In game one, Temple was in control throughout the game, as they coasted to a 30-23 win. The Owls hit a whopping .625 as a team with 22 kills and just two errors. In game two, it was more of the same as Temple won game two, 30-22.

The momentum of the match then changed in game three, as Fordham pulled out a 30-17 win. The Rams came through offensively, hitting .444 with 14 kills and just two errors, while holding Temple to a -.034 hitting percentage.

Game four was a seesaw affair that saw Fordham open with a 16-6 lead. Temple then battled back to within one, 21-20. The game was then tied at 28, with Patricia Vernon giving Temple match point with a kill. Katie Wells then tied the game at 29 with a kill, but Temple got back-to-back kills from Vernon and Yue Liu, to take game four, 31-29, and the match three games to one. Temple's rally focused around a .421 hitting percentage in the game.

For Fordham, Kailee May posted a double-double with 16 kills and 11 digs, while Christi Griffiths had 15 kills, three aces and three blocks with a .538 hitting percentage. Katie Wells chipped in 13 kills, with Lauren Fitzsimon having eight kills and 12 digs. Katherine Burrell finished with 50 assists in a match, bringing her season total to 1,527, becoming the first Ram to ever have 1,500 assists in a single season.

For Temple, Yun Yi Zhang recorded a match-high 23 kills, while Patricia Vernon had 17 kills and eight digs.
