Box Score
Dayton, Ohio -
For the third straight Atlantic 10 Championship tournament, a Fordham and a Charlotte team met with the winner advancing to bigger things, while the loser would have their season come to an end. Unfortunately, like the baseball and women's soccer championships, Charlotte got the better of Fordham at the men's soccer championship by a 2-1 score on Thursday night at Dayton's Baujan Field.
With the loss, Fordham ends the season at 6-10-3.
Much like most of the season, Fordham's opponent netted the first goal, as Charlotte scored in the 42nd minute, just prior to the half. Andres Cuero got the play started feeding a through pass to Chris Savaggione. He then hit Will Shull on the left side of the goal, who netted his fourth goal of the season.
The score stayed that way until last weekend's tandem of Grant Kerr and John Pardini came through again for the Rams in the 62nd minute. Kerr booted the ball into box, and with a flurry in front of the net, Pardini knocked his second goal of the season, giving the momentum back to Fordham.
The momentum did not last long though, as Fordham committed a foul, giving Charlotte a free kick from about 40 yards out in the 69th minute. Graham Tatters took the free kick, which was just out of Fordham goalkeeper Dan Hajducky's reach and just under the crossbar, giving the lead back to Charlotte.
Fordham frantically tried to get the equalizer, but the only chance Fordham got over the final 20 minutes was a shot by Kerr at the top of the box, which Charlotte keeper David Martin kept out of the goal, giving Charlotte the win.
In net, Hajducky made three saves for Fordham, while David Martin had two for Charlotte.
