Richmond, Va. - Heading into today's Atlantic 10 men's soccer match between Fordham and Richmond, it felt eerily similar to last season, where Fordham needed a win in its season finale to make the Atlantic 10 Tournament. Unlike last year though, Fordham got their win, courtesy of an overtime goal by John Pardini, as the Rams defeated Richmond, 1-0, at First Market Stadium in Richmond, Va.

With the win, Fordham improves to 6-9-3 on the year, 5-4 in the Atlantic 10, while Richmond ends their season at 4-14-1, 1-8 in the league. The Rams move on to the Atlantic 10 Tournament for the first time since 1998, and will be seeded fifth.

In what most thought would be a defensive game, the teams combined for 44 shots in the match, but it wasn't until the 44th that the game would be decided in overtime.

With 36 seconds remaining in the first overtime period, Steve Woicik got a long throw into the box, which Grant Kerr was able to corral. Dribbling the ball to the left side, Kerr back kicked the ball toward the net, which John Pardini knocked home for the game-winner, sending Fordham to the playoffs.

In net, Dan Hajducky posted his fifth shutout of the season, making five saves, while Eric Sciocchetti had five saves for Richmond.

Fordham now will play at the Atlantic 10 Championship tournament for the third time in team history, having won the title in 1996. The fifth seeded Rams will meet fourth seeded Charlotte at 8:00 PM at Baujan Field in Dayton, Ohio.
