Despite suffering a 3-0 loss to Temple University in the regular season finale, the Fordham University volleyball squad will be participating in the 2007 Atlantic 10 Championships to be held from November 16-18 at Charlotte's Halton Arena.
The championship appearance will be the second straight for the Rams, who received the bid by virtue of their second place finish in the Atlantic 10 East division. Fordham finished in a tie with George Washington and Charlotte for second place, each with a 5-8 conference mark, but the Rams won the tiebreaker as they went 3-1 on the season against the Colonials and 49ers.
In the Temple match, the Rams dropped the first game by a score of 30-19 before taking the Owls to the limit in game two, falling, 31-29. Temple also had to work overtime to win game three, taking the match with a 32-30 victory.
In game two, Fordham took an early lead, taking advantage of some Temple mental mistakes. Down 22-19, the Owls rallied back, taking a 29-26 lead before the Rams came back to tie the game at 29. But Temple survived to win the game, 31-29.
In game three, Temple took an early lead but the Rams were able to tie the game four separate times, the last at 29. Fordham then went ahead, 30-29, but Temple battled back to take the game, 32-30.
Kailee May led the Rams with 12 kills and 12 digs in the game while Christi Griffiths added ten kills and three block assists. Katherine Burrell also chipped in with a game-high 33 assists along with 11 digs.
The Rams close out the 2007 regular season with a 15-19 overall record.
