VOLLEYBALL SQUEEZED OUT BY DUQUESNE, 3-2

Pittsburgh, Pa. - Fordham got season-high kill total from Christi Griffths and Katie Wells and double-doubles from Katherine Burrell and Lauren Fitzsimon, but the Rams came up just short, as they fell in five games to the Duquesne Dukes at the Palumbo Center in Pittsburgh, Pa.

With the loss, Fordham falls to 9-14 overall, 2-3 in the Atlantic 10, while Duquesne moves to 8-9 on the year, 1-2 in the conference.

Fordham opened the match with a 30-27 win in game one, as the Rams hit .295 as a team, led by Katie Wells' six kills in nine attempts.

Fordham almost pulled out the second game as it survived three game points to tie the game at 29, following a kill by Christi Griffiths and two service aces by Katherine Burrell. The Dukes though eventually picked up the 34-32 win on a kill by Nicole Wright and a Fordham error.

Duquesne and Fordham then split the next two games by 30-26 scores to force a decisive fifth game.

In that final game, neither team was up by more then two points at any time with ten tie scores. With the score tied at 13, Duquesne got a kill from Wright to give match point to the Dukes, but Fordham responded with a kill by Griffiths to tie the game at 14. After a point on each side tied the score at 15, Duquesne recorded a kill by Jessica Hartman and a block by Kristen Hammergren to win the final game, 17-15.

Fordham recorded 84 total kills in the match, which tied for the third most in team history, and was the most by a Ram team since 2000. Fordham also had 78 assists in the match, which ties for the fourth best total in team history.

For Fordham, Christi Griffiths recorded a season-high 22 kills and three blocks, while Katie Wells had a season-high 19 kills and three blocks. Lauren Fitzsimon had a double-double with 12 kills and a career-high 22 digs, while Katherine Burrell dished out a career-high 69 assists with 13 digs. Kailee May finished with 17 kills and four digs, with Stephanie Frost adding a season-high 25 digs.

The Fordham volleyball team will next be in action on Sunday, October 7th, as they play at Saint Louis, beginning at 2:00 PM Eastern time, 1:00 PM Central.
