Volleyball Tops Columbia In Three

Bronx, N.Y. - With costumed characters for Halloween in the stands, the Fordham volleyball team put on a show as they swept a three-game match from the Columbia Lions on Tuesday night at the Rose Hill Gym. Final game scores were 30-19, 30-26, and 30-22.

With the win, Fordham improves to 12-17 overall, while Columbia drops to 3-18.

Fordham came out firing offensively in game one with a .484 hitting percentage, as they posted an 11-point win in game one. The Rams stayed steady through the following two games, as the team posted eight team blocks and six service aces. Overall, the team had ten players record at least two kills in the match with 11 recording at least a point.

For Fordham, Christi Griffiths led the attack with nine kills, three blocks and two service aces, while Katherine Burrell had 32 assists, 14 digs, four kills and four blocks. Lauren Fitzsimon chipped in seven kills and six digs, while Jolanda Gunning-Snowden picked up six kills, all of which came in the final game. Also having solid performances were Katie Wells and Kate Nelson, who had five kills and two blocks each.

For Columbia, Natalie Gerling had a match-high 13 kills, while Cassie Ligh had 10 kills and 10 digs.

The Fordham volleyball team will next be in action on Friday, November 2nd, as they play at Atlantic 10 opponent, Charlotte, at 7:00 PM.
