Bronx, N.Y. - In a key match-up among Atlantic 10 Tournament hopefuls, Fordham's Katie McDermott scored twice and added an assist, while Elisabeth Roald made five saves in net, as the Fordham Rams blanked the Rhode Island Rams, 4-0, in Kingston, R.I.
The win moves Fordham (7-4-3, 4-1-2 A10) past Rhode Island (10-4-2, 4-2-1 A10) in the Atlantic 10 standings into fifth place with 14 points to URI's 13 with only two weekends of conference play left.
Fordham opened the scoring late in the first half at the 36:17 mark. Off a Catherine Huvane free kick, Katie McDermott scored from 25 yards out for her second goal of the season.
The Rams made it 2-0, eight minutes into the second half. Katie Sanchez blasted a shot that was saved by URI's Jackie Fede, but the ball got away from her, allowing McDermott to knock home her second goal of the game and third of the season.
Sanchez made it 3-0 in favor of Fordham in the 71st minute, as she chipped a shot over the goalkeeper from the center of the box for her fifth tally of the season.
Fordham closed out the scoring at the 84:50 mark, as Danielle Ingram scored her second goal of the season. Ingram received an entry pass from McDermott and took a toe shot that scored into the right side of the net.
The Fordham defense kept the sheet clean, as URI rattled off 20 shots in the game. Fordham's Elisabeth Roald recorded five saves for her first shutout of the season, and third of her career.
The Fordham women's soccer team will next be in action on Friday, October 26th, as they host Atlantic 10 opponent, Xavier University, beginning at 5:00 PM. It will be the first game of a soccer doubleheader at Jack Coffey Field.
