Bronx, N.Y. - After scoring four goals in their Atlantic 10 opener against La Salle, the Fordham University men's soccer squad was having a hard time finding the back of the net, being shut out by Xavier on Friday night and going scoreless over the first 80 minutes in today's match with Dayton. But enter team captain Einar Oddsson whose direct kick in the 81st minute found the mark, leading the Rams to a 1-0 win over the Flyers on Jack Coffey Field.

With the win, Fordham improves to 3-6-3 overall, 2-1 in the Atlantic 10, while Dayton falls to 7-4-2 overall, 1-3 in the conference.

On the game winner, Dayton's Randy Dennis was called for a hand ball about 30 yards from goal with just under ten minutes remaining. Oddsson lined up to take the free kick and got off blast that curved to the near top corner, past Flyers' keeper Zac Gibbons for his second goal of the season.

The Rams threatened early in the game as in the fourth minute, Kevin Meyer attempted to capitalize on a Dayton turnover, dribbling in from midfield and getting off a blast from 25 yards that banged off the cross bar. The rebound eventually found its way to Abe Chehebar's foot, but his shot from 20 yards was saved by Gibbons.

In the 19th minute, Josh Albers tried to break the scoreless tie for Dayton but Fordham keeper Dan Hajducky was able to keep the shot out of the net.

Fordham also had a couple of scoring chances in the second half, but Grant Kerr's shot in the 59th minute and a blast from Dean Stanic in the 61st minute were both saved by Gibbons.

Hajducky finished with one save for the Rams, who out shot the Flyers, 8-3, while Gibbons recorded five for Dayton.

The Rams will next be in action on Friday night, October 27th, as they host the St. Bonaventure University Bonnies in an Atlantic 10 match on Jack Coffey Field at 7:30 PM. The game will be the second game of a doubleheader on Jack Coffey Field as the Fordham women host Xavier University in an Atlantic 10 match prior to the men's game at 5:00 PM.
